Vacancy on Pleasant Hill City Council

On April 12, 2021 Council Member John King was appointed as the Mayor of Pleasant Hill, effective immediately.  As Mayor, he has now vacated his Precinct 20 Council position.

The City will receive applications/statements of interest in the position until filled.

Applicants for this vacancy must meet the following qualifications:

  • Must be able to meet the statutory requirement to be able to provide to the City Clerk, at the time of appointment, proof of identity or must be recognizable to the City Clerk
  • Must not have been found guilty of or pled guilty to a felony or misdemeanor under federal law or to a felony under the laws of this state or an offense committed in another state that would be considered a felony in this state
  • Must not be in arrears for any State income, personal property, municipal, or real property taxes; liens, forfeiture or defalcation in office; past or present corporate officer of any fee office that owes any tax to the State of Missouri; and is required to file a Missouri Department of Revenue Form 5120 to that effect
  •  Must be a resident of the City of Pleasant Hill for one (1) year preceding the appointment
  • Must be a qualified voter
  • Must be a resident of Precinct 20 and shall remain a resident of the precinct for the duration of the term
  • Must not be employed by the City of Pleasant Hill


In accordance with Section 17 of the City’s Charter, the Mayor has the ability to appoint an individual to this position.  The City Council, by a majority vote of all of its remaining members, shall confirm the Mayor’s appointment of a qualified person to fill the vacancy until the next regular municipal election in April 2022, at which time the seat shall be up for election for the one (1)-year unexpired term.
