What Happens When You Call 9-1-1 

• Pleasant Hill 9-1-1. Do you need Police, Fire or an Ambulance? 

• (YOU) Tell the 9-1-1 Operator which department you need.

• Then the 9-1-1 Operator will ask you "Where do you need help"

• (YOU) Tell the 9-1-1 Operator where help is needed.

• Then the 9-1-1 Operator will ask you what your phone number is, Then your name. 

• (YOU) Give the 9-1-1 Operator your name and phone number. 

• Then the 9-1-1 Operator will ask you what the problem is.

• (YOU) Tell the 9-1-1 Operator what emergency you are reporting. 

ADDITIONAL TIPS WHEN TALKING TO A 9-1-1 OPERATOR:

• Stay calm 
• Stay on the phone until the dispatcher says to hang up 
• Stay safe 

Here is some reasons you can call 9-1-1 and some reasons NOT to call 9-1-1.

• There is a crime in progress (happening at the time of the call). 
• You are involved in a motor vehicle accident. 
• You witness a motor vehicle accident. 
• Someone around you needs an ambulance or Emergency Medical Services. 
• You smell smoke or see fire. 
• You or someone around you has been bitten by an animal. 
• There is an emergency that requires immediate assistance from the Police, Fire, or Emergency Medical Services Department.

Do Not Call 9-1-1 If: 

• You are reporting a crime that has already occurred. (non-emergency - 816-540-9109)
• You need a phone number. 
• You are reporting a non-emergency crime, such as loud music or a dog barking. 
• You are reporting a loose dog. 
• You are calling as a joke.
