Last Friday night, Mayor King hosted all of our volunteer boards and commissions at the annual Mayor’s Appreciation Dinner. This dinner is held to thank the many volunteers for their service to Pleasant Hill and compassion for our community. In addition to the service recognition, Mayor King presented two awards to Mark Crain and Alyn Brown, each being recognized as Citizens of the Year.
Mark Crain has served on the City’s Park Board since 2018. As a member of the Park Board, Mark brings a unique perspective to design, planning, and updates to our parks. “Park Board relies on having someone who is not afraid to speak up and say “Do NOT forget tomorrow.” Mark Crain is that someone. He puts his heart and soul into Park Board,” said Mayor King while explaining the characteristics of award winner Mark Crain.
Alyn Brown serves on the City’s Historic Preservation Commission, is a member of the Pleasant Hill Historic District and owns Brown’s Vintage Variety with his wife, Julie. “This is an individual who takes the responsibility of preserving history and maintaining a connection with our past seriously. He strives to understand what the best path forward is during difficult decisions and is committed to seeing that history is not a victim of growth and development. As I stated earlier, there is little fanfare for the work of Historic Preservation but the work they do directly impacts the preservation of the Historic District,” said Mayor King about award recipient Alyn Brown.
Thank you to all the volunteers for the countless hours you commit to the betterment of our community, we appreciate you!
